Quanzhou is named as one of the three Cultural Cities in Eastern Asia along with Yokohama and Gwangiu – the brief was to create a cultural park for the tourist industry.
The concept fuses the natural and man-made environments, cementing the origins of the local architectural style. Split into 7 plots that incorporate cultural tourism, the area houses health resort offices, hotels and retail space. Centred around 4 buildings, the masterplan presents: The Japanese Yokohama Cultural Centre, The South Korean Gwangiu Centre, Taiwanese Cultural and Tourism Centre, and Quanzhou Cultural Centre.
Each building takes traditional aspects of the local architecture, implementing them in original and creative manners for a modern twist that suits the master planning. Various shopping malls and health centres were also designed on one plot, as well as leisure facilities such as a large golf course on another plot.
